We at SWPW have noticed that many of the saints are very uninformed about keeping their computer free from the attacks that the enemy would use to stop them doing our Lord's work. We are committed in not only protecting your soul from the enemy, but by keeping you connected to our Lord through the internet.
To discuss this, we need to break this subject up into several parts. [ Links are PDF files or links to websites ]
Attacks.
Counter Attack.
COMPUTER HOUSEWORK.
Before we talk about what software you need, lets talk about getting into a habit of weekly or fortnightly house cleaning our computers.
VIRUSES.
To combat viruses there are many good brought Antiviral programs that you can purchase, but there also are a couple of free ones that rival the brought programs.
The two that I would bring to your attention are Avast! free home version [for your stand alone computer] and AVG free [that works on a network].
I hope that you DO NOT open any attachments that you download in your eMail whithout first checking them with your Antiviral software.
SPYWARE AND ASSOCIATES.
There are many software tools on the internet that will combat what we class together as spyware. These are the tools that I have come across as the ones that work the best to keep your computer online.
You should Open/ Update/ and Use each of these tools each week or after you download ANY software, not just free software.

Info About it.

| Spyware Terminator.
|
Real-time Protection constantly guards your system and ensures that spyware programs can be intercepted and disabled before they are installed, helping to prevent potential security breaches before a spyware program can run.
It uses the antivirus application ClamAV to prevent virus infection.
HIPS - Spyware Terminator HIPS protects user's computer from running unknown applications that can infiltrate your system through security holes within the system or any used application. During the Full Scan, Spyware Terminator creates a database of executable files of local disks. When this database is created and the HIPS function is active, any attempt of an unknown application or library to install is analysed by the Real-time Shield. If the Real-time Shield cannot determine that it is a safe application, it displays a warning.

| Spybot - S&D.
|
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging.
|
| Ad-Aware.
|
Ad-Aware Personal can efficiently remove behaviour-tracking spyware; thus protecting your privacy on the Internet. Enhances your computer's performance by protecting against bandwidth stealing programs. Provides greater computer security by removing keyloggers and other programs, which put passwords, credit card numbers, and other vulnerable data at risk online. Allows you to stay abreast of spyware, not just a step behind, thanks to the Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology
|
| Windows Defender.
|
Windows Defender beta 2 is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, which are automatically downloaded to your PC, so you stay up-to-date. | Windows Malicious Software Remover.
|
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software-including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom-and helps remove any infection found. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. Microsoft releases an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month, and as needed to respond to security incidents. Note - The version of the tool delivered by Microsoft Update and Windows Update runs in the background and then reports if an infection is found. If you would like to run this tool more than once a month, use this version.

| Eulalyzer.
|
End user license agreements (EULAs) are the bane of most computer users. No one wants to read through pages and pages of boring text before installing a program. And many programs put their license agreements in small windows that require lots of scrolling. So many people either skim them or skip reading them altogether. But it can be dangerous not to read license agreements.
License agreements can provide information about the intentions of software, and other bundled components. Have you ever installed a program, only to have your desktop taken over by advertising? It may have been noted in the license agreement that you simply clicked past. If you aren't reading the license agreements, you have no idea what you could be agreeing to. You should always read license agreements before agreeing to them.
But now there's a way of making that much easier. EULAlyzer can analyze license agreements in seconds, and provide a detailed listing of potentially interesting words and phrases. Discover if the software you're about to install displays pop-up ads, transmits personally identifiable information, uses unique identifiers to track you, or much much more. When installing software, never just click past the license agreement. Pop it into EULAlyzer, and EULAlyze it!

| I Hate Keyloggers.
|
This tool will prevent your typing from being recorded by malicious software such as key loggers, spyware, remote administration tools. The software will disable hook-based keyloggers so the keyloggers will not be able to capture your keystrokes. This way you can type sensitive information (passwords, email, credit card number, etc) with confidence. The log file of the key logger will be empty [your keystrokes are not recorded].
For Windows 2000 and Windows XP. [Windows 95/98/Me is not supported. Sorry].
