While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. "Take and eat it," he said; "this is my body."

[ Take the bread ]

Let us also as we take unto ourselves this bread, remember the hurt that our Lord went through for us.

[ Eat and meditate ]

"Lord, as I receive the bread, I identify with Your body; for in Your body, You bore stripes. And through the blood that flowed from those stripes, I receive healing. You died upon the cross, and in identification with You and the blood You shed in Your death on the cross, I receive forgiveness of sin."

Then he took a cup, gave thanks to God, and gave it to them. "Drink it, all of you," he said;

[ Take the cup ]

Let us also as we take unto ourselves this cup, remember the blood that our Lord shed for us.

[ Drink and meditate ]

"Lord, I partake of the cup, the fruit of the vine, in identification with You, in Your resurrection blood -- the power of an endless life. In identification with You as being the Tree of Life, I release my body from the power of sickness, and I receive longevity of life, Life everlasting."

"this is my blood, which seals God's covenant, my blood poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Let us dwell on the New Covenant that our Lord gave us that day, by His stripes, by His death on the cross, by His resurrection, there is a way for us to come before Abba, a way for us to become children of the most high God, Yahweh.

Come Pray with Me
By Ron Wood

"Come pray with me" were the words I heard spoken softly in my spirit as I awoke. The Lord was calling me to join him in prayer.

Can you picture sitting on a bench beside the Lord while he lifts up his face to the Father and prays? What would you see? Imagine the scene in your mind. Put yourself in the picture alongside Jesus. Sit in awe and take it in. Notice the details: Jesus doesn't bow his head in shame in order to pray. He lifts up his face to his Father. As he does so, his countenance glows as he smiles a radiant smile and peers beyond earth's pale shadows into heaven's shining reality. What is he seeing that makes him express such secret joy? What does he know that we don't know?

When you hear Jesus pray, you'll notice immediately that he doesn't pray like most of us do. We all learned to pray like sinners. Not so with Jesus. He prays like a son talking with his father– a father whom he knows loves him dearly! He talks to God like someone whose words are welcome. He is not intruding on his Father's time. He only says things once, without repetition, knowing someone is bending low to listen, paying careful attention. He doesn't begin by confessing unworthy feelings because he has no shame in his soul: only quiet confidence and love. He is a whole man at peace in a holy place.

Instead, Jesus starts his prayers acknowledging how wonderful his Father is. Jesus likes to worship! Oh, he is very real and truthful about how he feels and what he needs or what he wants, but he doesn't have the distracting weights like we often carry. He doesn't have the added burden of a defiled conscience or a long list of trespasses that he needs to confess. He literally has nothing to be embarrassed about, and for him, prayer is pure joy!

When Jesus prays, it is with a calm assurance because he knows his father hears him and that his prayer will be answered. Indeed, he knows his desires and wishes are valued. He speaks easily, not like someone having to plead his case before a reluctant judge. His requests are not packaged in stained-glass tones; they have no phony affectations; just a genuine conversation that has holy angels leaning in closely to listen.

If you'll notice, Jesus doesn't get very loud. His voice has an embedded peace even when presenting an urgent petition. "Father, you know..." he says. There is no anxious desperation; no quiver of self-condemnation; no anger from false guilt; no fear due to concealed sin; no doubt about the outcome; just an undivided heart filled with unadulterated faith. God has all the power; the devil is being defeated; our choices make a difference; in God's plan, we win in the end. Jesus knows who he is and he knows who he is talking to. That's enough.

It is one thing to pray to the Lord: it another thing to pray with the Lord. It is one thing to pray our agenda; it is something else to pray God's will into being as his co-worker and partner. I've sometimes felt like my prayers didn't make it past the ceiling. But when I've prayed with the Spirit's power, I've known instinctively that my words were heard in heaven's halls. Faith lets us rest our case when we know we've been heard by the Lord.

One reason that we who believe in Jesus (and his present and coming kingdom) need the Holy Spirit as our Helper is so we can pray effectively– so we can pray alongside the Lord. The Spirit of grace assists us in our human weakness or ignorance and helps us know how to pray. He knows the mind of the Lord so with his help we can pray in harmony with the will of our Father in heaven. "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven… in me, in my family, in our government, in this situation!"

No one knows better how to overcome fear and doubt than the Spirit of Truth. He is the original Encourager! The precious Holy Spirit can put the right idea for prayer into our mind just when we need it. Do you believe it? Trust him to do it! He can put a passion for prayer into your heart and stir you up when you feel discouraged. He can energize you to get up and get going into a proper prayer-mode. How does he do this? He is your prayer partner! He will flow like a river of fire through your belly. He will pour forth in known or unknown languages like a torrent out of your mouth. He will bypass your feeble intellect to loose your inner man to express deeply-felt heart-issues. He knows things you never even thought to ask for. The Holy Spirit is a potent intercessor, if you yield to him!

Read right column.

When I responded to the Lord's voice, I asked, "What are you praying about?" Without hearing any words, I immediately knew three things on the Lord's prayer-list for this season. I knew Jesus was praying for the earth's poor to be shown mercy; he was praying for gospel workers to increase; and he was praying for the offspring of Abraham to repent.

Don't realize that Jesus still prays? What do you think he's been doing in heaven since his resurrection and exaltation awaiting his return to earth? He's praying for us! "He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." (Hebrews 7.25 NAS) Based on this verse, you could rightly say, Jesus lives to pray for you! What is he asking for? He wants you to be saved. He wants you to be set free. He wants you to walk by faith in fellowship with God.

Two scenes flashed before my mind's eye. In the first, I saw Christ on the cross, a vivid glimpse of majestic suffering which I have seen in a vision from God three different times in my life. Each time, I was profoundly affected and moved beyond words. My life literally took a different turn because of each of these revelations of my Lord.

The cross is the touchstone of history. It is the apex of demonstrated grace. It is the epitome of selfless love. It is the final proof of God's profound determination to redeem lost mankind and also evidence of his intention to ultimately give to Jesus the inheritance he deserves… the nations!

From the cross, I believe Jesus prayed for the nations. Psalms 22 contains the words that we know Jesus quoted as he neared death, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Bible scholars believe it is possible and even plausible? Jesus being a student of the Law who freely quoted the Old Testament? that he may have quoted aloud all of Psalm 22 as he hung dying in agony. Jesus certainly knew the Scripture well enough and was aware of his role in fulfilling it.

These verses include a powerful petition couched as a prophetic declaration of a finished work. "From You comes my praise in the great assembly. I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the earth will worship before You. For the kingdom is the Lord's and He rules over the nations. All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, all those who go down to the dust will bow down before Him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. Posterity will serve Him; it will be told of the Lord to the coming generation. They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, that He has performed it." Psalms 22.25-31 NAS

To Jesus, who saw the end from the beginning, the joy of the finished work on the cross made the pain of the ordeal worth it all. To the Father, to give to Jesus what he paid for on the cross is the least he can do for an obedient Son who is asking for his inheritance. For us as believers, the symphony of the Spirit will crescendo as we are enlisted into the same prayer the Son of God is praying-- for salvation to break out in all its earth-shaking ramifications all over the globe as millions turn away from sin and seek the only Savior.
